Tuesday Truth Psalms 77:11 & 119:90

Psalms 77:11

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord;

yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.”

Psalms 119:90

“Your faithfulness continues through all generations;

you established the earth, and it endures.”

Throughout the Bible, we see examples of people looking back in their, or their family’s, history and calling to mind the times and ways that God had “come through” in the past. This served to bolster them, to encourage and fortify their faith.

Recently, we got to do some of this during an impromptu conversation with friends. What started out as just catching up turned into a time so rich and so good for the soul. We reminisced on some silly things, and then some deep and meaningful things. We also took time to reflect and talk about how we could now see (in retrospect) how God was providing for us, correcting us, directing our steps, guarding us, and more all along the way, even when we did not see it at the time.

I can see why the people that we read about in the Bible made it a point to take time to remember and talk about the Lord’s faithfulness in days gone by. We know that God is faithful, but I think that it helps our simple, human brains to actually recount the ways that God has shown himself faithful.

Sometimes our memories are short. If you are like me, you can let doubt creep in and start to wonder if God really cares about you and the things going on in your life. When you start to list out all the ways that you have seen Him be faithful, doubt is quickly replaced with hope and encouragement, because…

He is faithful.

He always has been.

He always will be.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you for being patient with us when we have doubts or questions. Thank you that we can look back at the ways you have been faithful in the past to help encourage us for the days to come.

We love you,

Amen
